...because I don't know. The writing on the right, I believe, asks for a 100 yen donation for the right to take pictures of the exhibits here. This one is the 'tamest' of the bunch on view. Going to go back to try and find out more about what is going on here...
Nice shot mate. Really clear the grain wood grain comes right out. Good job

Hey, I was these when I was in Kyoto this summer. I took a few shots as well not understanding that donations were requested. My shots didn't turn out so well, so... as Duncan said, show us the other ;-)

@Damon Schreiber: Well then Damon...you'll know what I am talking about! There has been this kind of unwritten rule about the route we have been following in Kyoto recently in order to take some pictures. By chance I ended up here on my own yesterday and due to a combination of the first cold winds of the winter and the fact it was raining when I was wandering around I missed our 'usual turn' and stumbled across this. It is, as I am sure you can recall a totally bizarre experience that totally jars with the experience that this part of Kyoto gives to the tourist / visitor. There is some really really, how shall I say it, freaky (?) stuff on show here. My biggest regret is not getting any reacton shots of the Japanese tourists who were there to 'soak up' the regular Yasaka / Kiyomizu experience. As I said, I will head back there tomorrow to take another look as it is an oddly shocking experience. Would be interested to see how your shots came out as, due to the location and the one dimensional nature of the environment, I found it terribly difficult to photograph. Also, I would suggest, you had the advantage of decent weather! My camera was shaking due to the cold!
Strange... Great picture.
